Advice to Baruch College

First off before we can apply some new media to Baruch we need to fix the wireless internet in the school. It is very slow and sometimes does not even appear on my laptop. Without a good internet connection, the new media would not work properly. Next I think professors should have mandatory twitter accounts so that they can immediately notify students if there is a change in their class. Then, we should have professors record lectures and post them on blackboard so that some individuals who do not make class, can watch it from home. Additionally, all school books should be available to be downloaded on sites that can provide eBooks, so that individuals who do not want to carry textbooks, can buy ereaders or download pdf files and place them on their PCs. Some classes should be held virtually through chat rooms, webcam chats or even on Second Life. I believe that Baruch College and other schools should transform their classes to online only so that people like me do not have to travel from Staten Island to get to class. Even though online classes somewhat dilute the experience of college, I believe it is necessary for convenience purposes.

  1. Ebooks is a great suggestion, plus they should save the students money. And if students use their laptop or some other mobile device to read the ebooks they don't have to print anything which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

  2. Definitely agree with the youtube idea. Students would get lost in class lectures because the information they're hearing are relatively new, so to hear it more than once and own the students own time would be a great help.

  3. The wireless connection should definitely be fixed. There are some spots in Baruch where connecting to the internet is impossible. I do have a problem with professors posting their lectures because it might encourage students to not show up to class. The school need students to attend class in order for them to receive funding from the state.

  5. Though all the ideas you mentioned would be great, I think it takes away the credit for students who so make it to class and who sit through lectures. I want the Ebook's idea to be done now! I am so tired of carrying books and laptop all through the day. I would want the Internet connection to be fixed too, I want them to add the printers to this connection so that we can send print commands through our laptops. I feel its weird to have to use school computers just because you want to print. It would be much easier and less crowded that way! =]

  6. Fixing the wireless, definate must! E-books, ok! Video-chat class, cool! But I will have to disagree with the mandatory Twitter account. I believe if professors notify their students via email about their absnece that would be great. Also, I don't believe professors would want information about all their absences floating around the internet. Additionally, students are just as attach to their emails on their phones, just as they are with Twitter.
