About Someone else's project

I enjoyed the project about Virtual Worlds by Nadia. Through the project, I found out that virtual worlds are not only a simulated environment. As well as that they contain many specific characteristics such as community and shared space where all individuals may collaborate at the same time. There are many types of virtual worlds ranging from education all the way to MMORPGs. For educational purposes, virtual worlds can help train individuals for their perspective jobs, as well as provide the ability to go on virtual tours of historical landmarks. Virtual Worlds help with the business world immensely due to the fact of it provides good places to hold meetings without hassle of traveling to far and away places. But most importantly Virtual Worlds help with community and help individuals interact in ways never dreamed possible in the real world.

This project was presented very well and I enjoyed how nicely the slides were designed. The information was not too bulky or clustered and pictures and videos enhanced the project. Overall this was a well done presentation.

The Next New Thing

Virtual reality has always been a thing of the future but I think this is the time for a significant innovation. Special glasses should be developed that look like sunglasses but when you put them on you enter a cyber world. You will sitting in your own home or office, and an avatar that looks exactly like you (flesh and bones in all) will travel in this virtual world. You will use your mind to control the actions of the avatar. So if you think about walking, the avatar will automatically start walking. You will be able to interact with friends and family, who are long distances apart and do the same activities that you would in the real world. Imagine that you can play football with your friend who moved to Alabama or even go shopping with your aunt who lives in Spain without even leaving the comfort of your home. Virtual organizations can be made so that things can be accomplished in the virtual and real world. This is the vision of the future.

About My Presentation Blog

My project deals with new media and its effect on sports. I will begin with an introduction about how new media and sports are interconnected especially within the last few years. Next I will describe how new media affects sports marketing the most especially through the internet and its fast flowing information networks. Then I will show some new media technologies that are connected to sports. Then I will describe how the major new media (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, etc) all affect the four major sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) and continue by going more in depth with each league and show some solid examples of the new media’s effect on each league. Finally I will conclude with how blogs, wikis, and Facebook are not the only things affecting the global sports. As new media grows, major athletics follows and shown every industry will follow.

Privacy & Confidentiality

New Media has a huge connection with privacy and confidentiality. As we as individuals connect on the internet to our Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts, we are sacrificing a little privacy every time. Sometimes hackers may watch your activity on these sites and hack them so that they may retrieve personal information. Many sexual predators lurk on the internet and try to seduce individuals. So if these individuals know who you are they are more likely to succeed in their seduction. Sometimes people online do not like individuals who post up blogs or comments. These individuals may resort to cyber bullying which may lead to an altercation in the real world. Sometimes putting too much information can hurt individuals on these sites especially when employers can see them. If employees use degrading or awful language online, and a prospective employer sees it, you can say goodbye to your job or be docked pay if you are currently employed. The more new media evolves, the more we are losing our privacy and confidentiality, but new media is adapting to the times by creating increased security measures.

Advice to Baruch College

First off before we can apply some new media to Baruch we need to fix the wireless internet in the school. It is very slow and sometimes does not even appear on my laptop. Without a good internet connection, the new media would not work properly. Next I think professors should have mandatory twitter accounts so that they can immediately notify students if there is a change in their class. Then, we should have professors record lectures and post them on blackboard so that some individuals who do not make class, can watch it from home. Additionally, all school books should be available to be downloaded on sites that can provide eBooks, so that individuals who do not want to carry textbooks, can buy ereaders or download pdf files and place them on their PCs. Some classes should be held virtually through chat rooms, webcam chats or even on Second Life. I believe that Baruch College and other schools should transform their classes to online only so that people like me do not have to travel from Staten Island to get to class. Even though online classes somewhat dilute the experience of college, I believe it is necessary for convenience purposes.

Our Class Wiki - So Far

I have been editing pages frequently. I deal mostly with graphics so I have been adding various graphics to the wiki's pages. I have edited pages from new media and economics to new media and sports. Whatever page needs a nice graphic, I have been there to place it. I try to keep every other contributors input intact but if I feel it is unnecessary I replace it with something better. I have only done this in one occasion. I will continue to spruce each and every page that I feel needs to be changed. Who thought working on wiki would be so much fun.

My New Media Class- So Far

New Media class has been great so far. I post blogs about once or twice every week about blogs, wikis, social networking, etc. For our wiki, I have been actively editing pages with many graphics that I find over the internet. i go to many different pages on the wiki to make them all stand out. I continue to work on my project diligently with the hope that I will receive a good grade for the class. The class lessons are interesting as well. There are lots of good videos shown in class that helps us illustrate the work that we are doing. These lessons help me do my work which is more hands on than in any other class.
